Week 3 - Solution: The Missing Portrait
Welcome back! Did you figure out what the engraved quote was, which document it came from, and therefore whose picture belongs in The Missing Portrait? If you're still working on it, STOP HERE! Spoiler Alert: We WILL discuss the solution to the puzzle in this post, so if you don't want to see it now, come back later!
What did you notice about this quote? Did you realize that, in addition to missing punctuation (commas, periods, capital letters, etc.), it was also missing all the vowels??? If you watch BJK GOAT here, you'll see he has an "a-ha moment" when he realizes that the vowels are missing. It was at that point that he realized the end of the quote contained the words "liberty" and "happiness", which got him thinking about a certain historical document... click here to see what he figured out.

This type of puzzle is an original concept created by our own Jonathan Schneider, the teacher who was in the puzzle and hint videos! He calls it a "nvwls" puzzle (for "no vowels"). The cool thing about nvwls puzzles is that you can code anything you want using this type of puzzle! Try choosing another famous quote or the title of your favorite book or movie, and then see if your parent, sibling, or friend can figure it out!
Have fun with your new puzzle coding skill, and we'll see you next time!
